By putting one of our authors on the 'Hotspot' we hope to give you and your reading group the chance to have all those burning questions you might have, answered by the authors themselves - we can't imagine a more direct way of uncovering an author's motivations and intentions!

A. L. Kennedy is this month's hotspot author. Published by Vintage, Paradise is A. L.Kennedy's fourth novel. The tale of Hannah Luckcraft's love affair with the bottle, Paradise is about what happens when you decide that enough is enough.

Alison Louise Kennedy was born in Dundee in 1965. After graduating from Warwick University, she went on to become a journalist for the BBC, The Telegraph and The Guardian, among others. In 1991, she published her first book, a collection of short stories, and has now published four novels, two books of non-fiction, and three collections of stories, most recently Indelible Acts in 2002. She lives in Glasgow.
