By putting one of our authors on the 'Hotspot' we hope to give
you and your reading group the chance to have all those burning
questions you might have, answered by the authors themselves - we
can't imagine a more direct way of uncovering an author's motivations
and intentions!
Chloe Hooper, the author of A
Child's Book of True Crime is our current 'hotspot' author,
she has stepped into the spotlight to answer your questions about
her extraordinary first novel, which was shortlisted for the Orange
Prize 2001.
Born in 1973, and educated at the University of Melbourne and Columbia
University, New York, where she studied creative writing, Hooper
brilliantly portrays a young woman reluctant to enter or conform
to the world of adults in a most compelling story which is both
dark and sensual.
Our author question and answer section will give
you and your reading group the chance to put forward questions which
might arise during the course of a session to the author. As well
as offering the opportunity to contribute to the website it is the
quickest way to receive a direct and clear-cut response.
Thank you for all the interesting and thought provoking questions
which you sent in to our hotspot author, we have selected some of
the most inspiring and frequently asked questions.
From the moment I first read Chloe Hooper's truly remarkable first
novel, A Child's Book of True Crime, I knew this was something
really special. I was captivated by its darkness and sexuality.
At the heart of the book lies the story of a murder, but it is layered
with such deep sensuality that I truly believe it will be one of
the best books you will read this year. We're certain she is a writer
to watch.
Yours sincerely,
Caroline Michel
