PUT THOSE WORRIES TO REST
There are many common worries that people have about starting or becoming a member of a reading group, hopefully we can put your mind at rest on some of them.

I'M NOT CLEVER ENOUGH

The most important thing to remember about a reading group is that it is an open forum for discussion and there are no right or wrong answers. It is not a school or university tutorial, you won't be marked on what you say and everyone is allowed a voice.

I'LL FEEL INTIMIDATED BY OTHER PEOPLE AND NOT SPEAK UP

Most people feel shy the first time they are in a forum of open discussion. However, it's hard to sit quietly when something you really love is being discussed, particularly if you don't agree! You'll probably find yourself jumping into the thick of things much quicker than you'd imagine once the discussion starts hotting up.

I HAVEN'T GOT THE TIME TO READ LOTS OF BOOKS

No one wants to experience that 'I haven't done my homework' feeling or start looking for excuses not to attend a meeting. Being a member of a group is meant to be an enjoyable experience and with this thought in mind it is essential as a group to set yourself realistic targets for regularly reading a book and getting together to discuss it. Equally, you must make a concerted effort to put aside time every day to read and think about the
upcoming title so that you get the most out of the meeting.

I WON'T KNOW ANYONE

Joining or starting a reading group is a fantastic way to meet new people. You can go along safe in the knowledge that you've already got something in common with people which is always a great ice-breaker.
