Caroline Newbury has been appointed to the new position of VP Marketing and Publicity for Random House India, having been promoted from her role as UK-based Deputy Publicity Director at Ebury Publishing.
She will report to Gaurav Shrinagesh, MD Random House India, and be responsible for all publicity, marketing and digital marketing initiatives. Her immediate priorities will be the delivery of first-class publicity for Random House India titles – in traditional print and broadcast alongside innovative digital campaigns – and the transformation of the profiles of some of Random House’s key UK brands within this market.
She will also focus on building the Random House India brand locally with trade, media and consumers and on developing direct engagement with readers. Caroline’s team will also be supporting the Random House India sales team in what is an increasingly competitive retail landscape.
Caroline said: “In a rapidly growing and evolving Indian market I want to ensure that Random House India has a publicity and marketing team with a reputation for excellence similar to that enjoyed by the teams in the UK.
“Since arriving in India I have been struck by the infectious vibrancy and energy not only within the publishing industry but the country as a whole. The book industry here is growing and changing at a pace no one could have predicted a few years ago and the chance to experience this first-hand is incredibly exciting. Already at number two in the market after only seven years, Random House India is packed with passionate, talented and creative people and I relish the opportunity to work with them as we aim to make Random House India number one in the market!”
Gaurav Shrinagesh, MD Random House India, said: “We are delighted to have Caroline join us to spearhead marketing and publicity at Random House India. She has a vast amount of experience which will help us reach the biggest possible audiences for our authors. India is an important and growing market for Random House and our focus is on providing the consumer with the best content available both locally and internationally and Caroline’s appointment will be a key factor in helping our authors to reach the next level.”
Gail Rebuck, Chairman and CEO, The Random House Group, said: “India is an important area of strategic growth and focus for us and I am delighted that Caroline has joined the Random House India team to lead their marketing and publicity strategy. As an integrated international group we are able to nurture great talent across the publishing spectrum and provide opportunities for personal growth which not only benefit the individual but the Group as a whole. Caroline has built up a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in her years at Ebury and I am delighted that she has a new and exciting challenge and that our Indian company will also reap the benefits of her expertise.”
Caroline joined the publicity team of Ebury Publishing in 2002.
