At the 2011 Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) Awards for science writing in Britain and Ireland, Fred Pearce was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. These awards are described as the Oscars for science writing and it is a magnificent and well-deserved tribute. He was also runner up for the investigative journalism award for his brilliant 'climategate' reporting for the Guardian.
