Welcome, as always, to the Newsletter which coincides with publication of ‘Saturnalia’. I can’t believe this is our Eighth Newsletter, but I know how popular it has become. If you have picked up this copy at an event and want to add your name to the Mailing List (or if you want to amend your details or to be removed) please contact us by letter or through: lindseydavisnewsletter@randomhouse.co.uk

Many of you will know that I took some time to myself last year. I have been producing Falcos since the1980s, but the break has done me good. Although I am often begged to ‘write faster!’ I am going to dig my heels in now and say that my days of writing a novel every year are over. I think you will find the new book is all the better for a more considered treatment.

It has been great fun writing about the Roman festival of Saturnalia. The timing was also right for a story with roots in actual Roman history. I won’t give it away but, as so often happens, while I was writing, the political aspects became more and more topical… I hope you enjoy the Newsletter articles – and for the first time ever there is a recipe!

With best wishes to all,
Lindsey Davis
