My discovery of Lindsey's books coincided with life-changing events for me - becoming a bookseller and, as an adoptee, finding my birth mother and family. At 40, with a 'proper' job, a reasonable living, plenty of stress, but no food for the soul, I found my family in Australia. To fund the trip to meet them I indulged myself with an additional weekend job at Ottakar's, fulfilling a lifetime ambition to be a bookseller.

It was at this point that I first read Silver Pigs. As with all books that one reads at significant moments in life, Lindsey's books become enmeshed for me in what turned out to become a wonderful success story. Luckily for me I had the whole backlist to go at! Falco and Helena accompanied me every step of the way to Australia - it takes a great read to hold your attention on the plane to meet your mum for the first time. Then, subsequently, through my downsizing from the 'real' job, swopping the car for a pushbike and becoming a full-time bookseller.

It was Ottakar's belief in Lindsey as one of the best contemporary British mystery writers that introduced me to Falco. In spring 2003 Ottakar's expressed our confidence in Lindsey by producing an exclusive 99p edition of Silver Pigs to introduce more people to her books. And it worked! In Lincoln alone Lindsey gained over 350 new readers, including myself and, like me, they have continued reading through the backlist and up to date. Now we all eagerly await each new book.

In Lincoln we have a very strong crime section, of which Lindsey is a very important element. I'm constantly recommending her to friends and customers alike. For me, the magic is made up of several things. The plots are fast paced pageturners. The relationship between Falco and Helena is as near to my romantic ideal since I first met Mr Rochester and Jane as a teenager. Most of all, the feeling of social history brought to life, in full 3D technicolour. I feel I know what it was like to live in Falco's Rome and Britain. In Lincoln, the Roman Lindum, we are surrounded by remains of that world every day; good fictional social history writing such as Lindsey's brings our own past alive for us.

Ottakar's commitment to Lindsey has continued. The Accusers is currently included in our Crime Novel of the Year promotion in conjunction with Theakston's Old Peculiar. I'm sure Falco would appreciate the connection!

Lindsey has joined with Ottakar's for many events over the years and we're thrilled and delighted that she's coming to Lincoln for a talk and signing event on Wednesday 15th June to talk about See Delphi and Die. We have great fun at events and Lindsey's local fans will have lots of questions for her - mainly 'What next?' Audiences always hope authors will let slip clues to the next plot. So now I'm busy getting the word out about Lindsey's forthcoming visit. Lindsey's Lincoln fans can't wait to welcome her back to Ottakar's and for Falco's next adventure in See Delphi and Die.
