Ian MacDonald was born in 1948. A writer with many interests, he was Assistant Editor of the New Musical Express from 1972-5. He is the author of the acclaimed Revolution in the Head: The Beatles' Records and the Sixties (1994, revised 1997) and The People's Music, both published in Pimlico.
