About the book

Synopsis

Maurice, a streetwise tomcat, has the perfect money-making scam. Everyone knows the stories about rats and pipers, and Maurice has a stupid-looking kid with a pipe, and his very own plague of rats - strangely educated rats . . .

But in Bad Blintz, the little con suddenly goes down the drain. For someone there is playing a different tune and now the rats must learn a new word.

EVIL.

It's not a game any more. It's a rat-eat-rat world. And that might only be the start . . .

What the critics say

Ethically challenging, beautifully orchestrated, philosophically opposed to the usual plot fixes of fantasy
- Guardian

Simply gripping story-telling
- The Times

For sheer green-eyed-monster writer's envy, I have to confess to wishing I'd been the author of The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents. Not only is it powerful, passionate, mordantly funny and, at one point, unbearably sad, it is that rarest of things: a book that is heaven to read out loud to a pyjama-clad child
- Daily Telegraph

An astonishing novel . . . I marvelled at the ferociousness of the humour, and the willingness to go into dark places: the book uses humour to illuminate, rather than to satirise . . . Were Terry not demonstrably a master craftsman already, The Amazing Maurice might be considered his masterpiece. It demonstrates, if there was any doubt, that he is, unquestionably, a master
- Financial Times

Great yarn written in fairly simple text
- Liverpool Echo

Will take you on a fantastic journey . . . Wonderful, funny and gripping
- Kids Alive

It is far more than a fantasy about talking animals but about a man's relationship with the fellow creatures with which he shares this planet
- Writing Magazine
