About the book

Synopsis

Just this once . . . Please let me get away with it just this once . . .

Tobey wants a better life - for him and his girlfriend Callie Rose. He wants nothing to do with the gangs that rule the world he lives in. But when he's offered the chance to earn some money just for making a few 'deliveries', just this once, would it hurt to say 'yes'?

One small decision can change everything . . .

'Packs a punch' Guardian

'Shocks and twists . . . powerful teenage emotions' Sunday Times

What the critics say

Few writers can sustain a plot as well as Malorie Blackman
- Sunday Telegraph

The danger of being sucked into and destroyed by this violent world is brilliantly handled by Blackman...Blackman hangs an old story on a modern frame with terrific resonance.
- INIS

This is a great read, full of tragedy, love and the harsh, cold reality of the world these interesting, relatable characters live in. Recommended.
- Chicklish

Definitely one for the teenagers, it fizzes with strong emotion and grips with its authenticity, a highly-skilled piece of writing by a writer with all the right instincts...This is visceral stuff. It grabs you and it hits deep...this is writing which is gutsy, spot-on and relevant... And shocking too. A great read.
- Chichester Observer
