Malorie has created such a realistic story about what goes on in society just now. She doesn't sugar coat anything and just tells the story like it is. This could easily have been a non fiction story. These are issues that people face everyday. Single Teen Parents. Homophobic behaviour. And yet she manages to create a story that is full of hope and love and humour that had me crying alot with happiness for the characters. 5 / 5 - Thoughts of a Mad Hatter

Reading Boy's Don't Cry reminded me what a gem the author really is. She could have gone for the vampires, the superpowers, the dragons but she went for real life scenario's. Situations that me and you can relate to and learn from. Now that takes heart, and it's particularly one of the reasons I will continue to keep an eye out for her future work. The writing style is nice and relaxed and while it's clearly written with a younger audience in mind it never slips into pastiche. In fact, Blackman has a great ear for the way teenagers speak without having to noticeably force it to sound street or urban...Don't let the fact that its issues based get in the way as it's highly enjoyable, as Boys Don't Cry by Malorie Blackman is a fast and good read. - Active Dad
