What the critics say

An absorbing, powerful and uplifting story
- Booktrust

It is hugely to Davies’s credit that she makes these characters live such vibrant lives in the minds of her young readers . . . The action in the narrative is unflagging and fast-paced. The language is convincing . . . I would like to see this book adopted as a primary class text
- Armadillo Magazine

Heartwarming . . . so far removed from anything children here would experience and gives so much to think and talk about, as well as being a page-turning story to boot
- The School Librarian
